Eddie Huffman’s biography, John Prine: In Spite of Himself, traces Prine’s family roots in music-rich Muhlenberg County, Kentucky; his boyhood in the Chicago suburbs; his discovery by Kris Kristofferson and Paul Anka after years as a mailman; and his career over more than four decades, from national awards and authorship of hit singles for other artists to his divorces and struggles with alcohol and cancer. Publishers Weekly honored Huffman’s book as one of “The Most Anticipated Books of Spring 2015,” along with books by Toni Morrison, Nick Hornby, Joyce Carol Oates, and Erik Larson. Huffman lives in Burlington and writes about music for the Greensboro News & Record and Winston-Salem Journal.
