POETRY SERIES: Jeffery Beam and Giovanni Pascoli, translated by John Martone
Thursday, May 7, 2020 at 7:00 p.m.
The Regulator Bookshop welcomes poet Jeffery Beam and translator/poet John Martone for an evening of poetry.
"Two poets – a century apart – both on the pulse of nature and singing of it: Jeffery Beam and Giovanni Pascoli, in John Martone’s new translation."
Works by Jeffery Beam and "Giovanni Pascoli: O Little One and Selected Poems", translated by John Martone (published by Laertes, a local press for literary translation) will be available for purchase and signing at the event. The Regulator’s Poetry Series is free and open to the public thanks to generous support from Jacar Press.
“The vast spectral interiors of Jeffery Beam’s poetry and his evocations of our environment resonate deeply with Pascoli’s sense of the poet as a myth-maker born of Nature’s deepest wellspring.” —John Martone
JEFFERY BEAM's work hailed for its "transcendent, lush beauty, its minimal sacrament, simplicity & physicality" fuses the physical & spiritual worlds, creating a conversation between the natural world, the body, & the spirit. Beam is the author of over 25 works of poetry, essay, & musical collaborations.
GIOVANNI PASCOLI (1855-1912) is esteemed for his profound grasp of the psychological and natural worlds, of ancient past and nascent modern age, and for the singular fabric he weaves of them all.
Pascoli's translator, JOHN MARTONE is a maker of small and angular poems. Martone’s many books include dogwood & honeysuckle and Ksana from Red Moon Press, so long from Ornithopter, and Storage Case from Otoliths. Much of his work can be accessed online at scribd.com.
