Laurent Dubois
Duke’s Laurent Dubois will read from and sign copies of his latest book Haiti: The Aftershocks of History. Even before the 2010 earthquake destroyed much of the country, Haiti was known as a place of poverty and corruption, rooted in its founding revolution—the only successful slave revolt in the history of the world that generated hostility among the colonial powers that surround the island nation. A professor of history and French at Duke University, Dubois has written on Haiti for the Los Angeles Times, The Nation, and the New Yorker.
