Orin Starn is a Professor and Chair of Cultural Anthropology at Duke University. He is the author of <em>Nightwatch</em> and the award-winning <em>Ishi’s Brain\: In Search of </em><em>America</em><em>’s Last “Wild” Indian</em>. He is also an avid golfer with a five handicap.</p>

A professor of history and French at Duke University\, Dubois has written on Haiti for the <em>Los Angeles Times</em>\, <em>The Nation</em>\, and the <em>New Yorker</em>.</p>

DESCRIPTION:<p>Each year the North Carolina Literary Review hosts the Doris Betts Fiction Prize.  Winners from the competition will read from their submissions. The 2011 first place winner\, Robert Wallace\, has had fiction and nonfiction published in various venues\, including <em>Bryant Literary Review\, The Long Story\,</em> and <em>Racing Home\: New Short Stories by Award Winning North Carolina Writers</em>. He is the author of the novel <em>A Hold on Time</em> and writes a monthly column for the <em>News and Observer</em>. Second place winner\, Gregg Cusick\, has had stories published in <em>Chelsea\, The Bellevue Literary Review\,</em> and <em>Alligator</em>. Cusick won the 2010 Lorian Hemingway Short Story Competition and in 2011 received a Pushcart Prize nomination. Melanie Raskin is a Chapel Hill resident whose work has been published in <em>Seems</em> and <em>Spectator Magazine</em>. In 1985\, she co-founded the Triangle Writers Group.</p>
