2010-2011 U. S. Poet Laureate W. S. Merwin will read from his works, followed by a reception and book signing.  Merwin, the William Blackburn Visiting Poet at Duke, is a recipient of the Pulitzer Prize (twice), the National Book Award, the Tanning Prize, the Bollingen Prize and the Ruth Lilly Poetry Prize.  The reading is free and open to the public, but tickets are required.  Tickets can be picked up from the English department in the Allen Building beginning Oct. 25, or by emailing rebecca.gibson@duke.edu.  Remaining tickets will be distributed at the door.

Chapel Hill cookbook author will talk about and sign copies of her new book, Southern Pies, which features recipes like Sweet Tea Pie and New Orleans Creole Coconut Pie contributed by a variety of Southern bakers.  Needless to say, there will be an assortment of pies to taste.  We can hardly wait!  McDermott—a food writer and cooking teacher—is the author of six cookbooks, including Southern Cakes.
